Reverse description The reverse features a central circular beaded cartouche enclosing the denomination inscription in Arabic script reading 'سفراتس روڤيه' (Satu Rupiah / one cent equivalent). This central medallion is surrounded by a concentric band bearing a repeating Javanese script legend reading 'ꦱꦠꦸꦱ꧀ ꦫꦸꦥꦶꦪꦃ', all contained within an outer beaded border. The design is bilingual, reflecting the dual administrative and local linguistic character of the Netherlands Indies colonial coinage. The fields are smooth and the strike is sharp, consistent with the proof-like character of a pattern piece.

Additional information

This is a pattern piece, not a circulation strike. The Netherlands Indies monetary administration never adopted a gold cent for everyday use — the denomination made no economic sense in that metal — and this Wilhelmina-era essai almost certainly originated as a presentation or trial striking rather than a serious proposal for coinage. Delmonte's cataloging of it as G#1248 places it firmly within the documented series of Dutch colonial gold proofs and patterns, a category produced in very limited numbers and rarely encountered outside specialist collections.
