| Reverse description | The reverse features a central circular cartouche bearing the three-line denomination inscription ONE CENT / HONG KONG / 1862 in upright serif capital letters. A seahorse rampant appears on each lateral flank of the central device. Encircling the whole composition is an elaborate wreath combining oak and laurel branches, tied at the base with a ribbon and surmounted by a floral ornament at the apex. The entire design is enclosed within a milled border. The arrangement is typical of mid-Victorian colonial pattern coinage prepared during the design evaluation process for the new Hong Kong currency series. |
