Reverse description The reverse bears a patriotic legend arranged in a spiral reading outward from the center: DIX appears prominently in the central boss within a rope circle, surrounded by the concentric inscription SHOOT HIM / ON THE SPOT, with the outer legend IF ANYBODY ATTEMPTS TO TEAR IT DOWN reading around the periphery within a beaded border. The name DIX refers to General John A. Dix, whose famous order inspired this Civil War store card.
