Obverse description The obverse features two allegorical figures flanking a central round hole: at left, a seated Marianne wearing a winged helmet and draped robes holds a fasces, personifying the French Republic; at right, a kneeling female figure in Asian dress leans upon the central perforation, representing Indochina. The denomination '1 CENT' appears in the lower field on a scroll-like tablet, with the mint mark 'A' (Paris) below, and the engraver's signature 'DANIEL DUPUIS' at lower right. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' arcs around the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border and executed in high relief consistent with piedfort striking.
