Obverse description Draped bust of Abraham Lincoln facing right, rendered in high relief after the medallic portrait by Victor David Brenner, occupying the center of the field. The legend IN GOD WE TRUST arcs along the upper periphery, while LIBERTY appears in the left field at mid-height. The date 1944 is positioned in the lower right field, with the engraver's initials VDB incuse at the base of the truncation. The portrait displays finely detailed hair, beard, and coat lapel, characteristic of Brenner's original sculptural conception.
