Obverse description Central round hole surrounded by a Phrygian cap positioned above, rendered in relief, symbolic of the French Republic. Two crossed laurel branches flank the hole in the lower field, their tips meeting beneath it. The denomination '1 CENT' appears in bold raised lettering in the lower field, integrated among the branches. The circular legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE' runs along the periphery, engraved by Edmond-Emile Lindauer in his characteristic Art Deco style.
