| Obverse description | Allegorical seated figure of the French Republic, rendered in the classical style by engraver Dupuis, occupies the central field to the left of the central hole, holding a lance and accompanied by a reclining female figure representing Indochina to the right. The composition surrounds the characteristic round central perforation, with the denomination '1 CENT' inscribed in the lower field and the mint mark 'A' for Paris positioned below the hole. The peripheral legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' runs along the upper rim in Latin characters. The overall design reflects the allegorical tradition of late 19th-century French colonial coinage. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a plain, lightly textured field centered on the round perforation, around which four large Chinese characters are arranged in cruciform fashion reading '百一之分' (one hundredth). The peripheral legend 'INDO-CHINE FRANÇAISE' is inscribed along the upper rim in Latin characters, separated from the inner design by a dotted circular border. The date '1939' is engraved in the lower exergue below the dotted circle. The combination of Latin and Chinese scripts reflects the bilingual typographic convention of French Indochina's colonial coinage. |
