Obverse description Right-facing draped bust effigy of President Abraham Lincoln, engraved in high relief with characteristic beard and bow tie, after the original design by Victor David Brenner. The legend 'IN GOD WE TRUST' arcs along the upper rim, while 'LIBERTY' appears to the left of the portrait and the date '2009' to the lower right. Brenner's initials 'VDB' are incused at the base of the bust truncation. The portrait conveys a strong, dignified likeness consistent with the classic Lincoln cent tradition established in 1909.
