Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI, engraved by Percy Metcalfe, occupies the central field. The king is depicted wearing the Imperial State Crown with detailed jewel work rendered in high relief. A circular legend surrounds the portrait along the periphery, reading GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA, punctuated by a raised dot. The rim is defined by a continuous border of fine beading. The designer's initials PM appear discreetly below the truncation of the bust.
