Reverse description The circular legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is inscribed around the periphery in bold, widely spaced capital letters, contained within a beaded border. At center, an open wreath composed of slender laurel branches tied at the base frames the two-line denomination inscription ONE CENT in raised capital letters within the field. The overall composition is simple and classical in character, consistent with mid-nineteenth-century United States Mint pattern die work.
