Obverse description Draped bust of Liberty facing right with long flowing hair, the date 1793 below, and a sprig above the date. The legend LIBERTY appears above the bust. This design, modeled by Henry Voigt, was a revised iteration of the earlier Chain Cent obverse but was nonetheless short-lived, being replaced after only one year of production. On extremely rare specimens, strawberry leaves with a bud replace the sprig above the date. The portrait reflects a neoclassical aesthetic characteristic of early American coinage.
