This piece belongs to the Royal Canadian Mint's numismatic collector program, struck in sterling silver with a copper wash to replicate the appearance of a circulating cent — an exercise in archival authenticity rather than currency production. By 1998, the working cent had long since been debased to copper-plated zinc and steel; this issue nods back to the coin's earlier material identity.
