Additional information

Bermuda's gold proof cent exists because of a collector market quirk, not any monetary need. The Bermuda Monetary Authority has issued base-metal cents continuously since 1970, but periodically authorized gold restrikings of current circulation types for annual proof sets targeting the island's substantial tourist and expatriate collector trade. The 1995 issue falls within a run of such sets produced through the mid-1990s before collector appetite for small-denomination gold proofs softened markedly across the Commonwealth proof market.
