Obverse description Crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the George IV State Diadem, with a lace-trimmed neckline visible at the truncation, after the first portrait by Mary Gillick. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND curves around the upper periphery, with the initials CT (for Cecil Thomas, the engraver of the adapted portrait) appearing at the lower truncation. A continuous dentillated border frames the design.
