Reverse description A large numeral 1 occupies the centre of the field, enclosed within a raised beaded circle. The colonial issuer's name STRAITS SETTLEMENTS curves along the upper periphery, flanked by raised dot stops, while the denomination ONE CENT and the date appear along the lower periphery, with the four-digit year positioned to the lower right. The flat field within the beaded circle contrasts with the surrounding annular area, and a toothed border runs along the outer rim.
