The Dutch 1-cent coin was withdrawn from circulation in 1980 and had been out of everyday use for over two decades by 2001. This silver restrike was issued as part of the Netherlands' final annual coin set before the country abandoned the guilder entirely for euro coinage — making it a deliberate farewell to a denomination that had effectively been dead for a generation.
