Reverse description The reverse features a whimsical celebratory design commemorating the birth of the royal heir to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. A stork in flight is depicted in the upper centre, carrying a swaddled infant wrapped in a coloured Union Jack flag applied in polychrome enamel. In the lower portion of the field, two overlapping textured hearts display impressed baby footprints, with a circular cartouche bearing the cursive inscription A Royal Baby 2013 superimposed upon them. Floral sprays and blossoms frame the left and right sides of the field, with the left half of the field given a contrasting mirror-polished dark finish. The curved legend along the upper border reads To celebrate the new arrival for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the rim is bordered by a beaded inner ring.

Additional information

Issued to mark the birth of Prince George in July 2013, this piece belongs to a wave of commemorative coinage produced by smaller issuing authorities worldwide capitalizing on the event — Ghana among several African nations whose mints or licensing arrangements made them attractive vehicles for European novelty coin distributors targeting collector markets far removed from Accra.
