Reverse description The central field features a colorized depiction of a baby's cradle or pram draped with the Union Flag (Union Jack) rendered in full polychrome enamel color, with the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom visible above it. Below, two overlapping heart-shaped motifs are depicted in the field: the left heart bears an embossed texture with infant footprints, while the right heart carries the engraved inscription 'A Royal Baby 2013'. Floral sprays in relief adorn both the left and right borders of the field. The surrounding legend arcs across the upper portion of the coin reading 'To celebrate the new arrival for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge', with a dotted inner border encircling the design.

Additional information

Struck to commemorate the birth of Prince George of Wales in July 2013, this issue is one of dozens of large-format novelty pieces released by various African and Pacific nation mints that year under licensing arrangements with private European distributors — Ghana's central bank functioning here essentially as a nominal issuer rather than an initiating authority. The actual production almost certainly passed through the Bavarian State Mint or a comparable European facility.

Collector appetite for royal birth memorabilia drove a brief but intense secondary market in 2013. Most pieces went directly into display cases, ungradeable by conventional standards given the silver-plated base metal construction.
