Obverse description The national coat of arms of Ghana occupies the brass inner disc, depicting a quartered shield supported by two golden eagles with wings displayed, surmounted by a black five-pointed star. The shield quarters bear a sword and a traditional staff, a castle, wavy lines representing the sea, and a cocoa tree, with a scroll below inscribed FREEDOM AND JUSTICE. The country name GHANA arcs along the upper portion of the nickel-steel outer ring in spaced capital letters, flanked by four small five-pointed stars, and the date 2007 appears in large numerals at the base of the ring.
