Obverse description Central field features a crowned eagle displayed with spread wings, perched above a heraldic shield bearing the arms of Saluzzo, with a helmeted knight or armored figure to the left holding a lance. The composition is rendered in a vigorous late-medieval hammered style typical of north Italian marquessate coinage. A circular inner border frames the central device, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery reading MICHAEL. ANT. - M. SALVTIAR., referencing Marquis Michele Antonio of Saluzzo. The flan is notably irregular in shape, consistent with hand-struck production of the early sixteenth century.
