Reverse description Central field occupied by a bold, broad-armed cross pattee enclosed within a beaded inner circle, its arms nearly reaching the border and imparting a strong, imposing presence to the design. The cross is rendered in high relief with slightly concave arm surfaces, consistent with the hammered technique of the period. Surrounding the central device, a cable border separates the field from the outer legend, which reads RVD ROM REX ET IMP C G in Latin capital letters, invoking Rudolph II as King of the Romans and Holy Roman Emperor, with the abbreviated reference to Gazoldo. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular plantet and uneven strike typical of late sixteenth-century Italian marquisate coinage.
