| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged symmetrically around a central square perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 至元通寶 (Zhiyuan Tongbao). The characters are boldly cast in relief within a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim, occupying the four quadrants of the field. The inscription reads 'Universal Currency of the Zhiyuan era,' referencing the second Zhiyuan reign period of Kublai Khan (1271–1294). The overall style is characteristic of Yuan dynasty imperial cash coinage, with well-formed strokes and moderate relief. |
