| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin of standard Northern Song type, featuring a central square perforation enclosed by a raised square rim (inner rim). Four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in the four quadrants of the field, reading clockwise from the top: 治 (Zhì), 寶 (Bǎo), 平 (Píng), 元 (Yuán), forming the reign-title inscription 'Zhiping Yuanbao' — denoting the Zhiping era (1064–1067) of Emperor Yingzong. The characters are rendered in a formal, balanced calligraphic style with well-defined strokes, set between the inner square rim and the outer raised circular border. |
