| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by a plain raised rim on both inner and outer edges. Four Chinese characters in cursive running script (xingshu) are arranged in the four quadrants reading clockwise from the top: 至 (Zhi), 道 (Dao), 寶 (Bao), 元 (Yuan), forming the reign-title inscription 至道元寶 (Zhidao Yuanbao). The characters are boldly rendered with the fluid, connected strokes characteristic of xingshu calligraphy, set within a flat, unadorned field. |
