| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a plain inner rim and broad flat field bearing four Chinese ideograms in running script (xingshu), arranged in cruciform fashion and read clockwise from the top: Yuan (元), Fu (符), Bao (寶), Tong (通). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief, exhibiting the fluid, cursive strokes characteristic of the xingshu calligraphic style. A raised outer rim frames the composition. The coin displays an olive-brown patina with areas of light mineral encrustation consistent with extended burial. |
