| Obverse description | Central square hole (穿) surrounded by a plain raised rim and inner border. Four Chinese ideograms in cursive running script (行书) are arranged in clockwise reading order around the central perforation, reading 元豐通寳 (Yuanfeng Tongbao). The characters are rendered with fluid, naturalistic strokes characteristic of the running script style favored during the Northern Song dynasty. The flat field between the legends and the outer rim is plain and unadorned. |
