Obverse description Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform disposition around the central square perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 雍正通寶 (Yongzheng Tongbao). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief against a flat field, flanked by inner and outer raised rims. The legend identifies the reign title of the Yongzheng Emperor and proclaims the coin as universally circulating currency, following the established Qing dynasty formula for cash coinage.
