Obverse description Central square hole framed by a raised square border, characteristic of traditional Chinese cash coinage. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation: 宣 (top), 通 (right), 統 (bottom), 寶 (left), reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left as 宣統通寶, meaning 'Xuantong Circulating Treasure.' The legends are rendered in bold, well-formed strokes against a flat, unadorned field. No additional decorative elements or rim ornamentation are present.
