| Obverse description | Circular cast iron coin featuring a central square hole (方孔) flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order. The four-character reign title inscription 宣和通寶 is rendered in the elegant Slender Gold script (瘦金體), a calligraphic style personally developed by Emperor Huizong, characterized by its attenuated, sharply angular strokes and refined aesthetic. The characters are disposed with 宣 above, 寶 below, 通 to the right, and 和 to the left of the central aperture. A raised inner rim borders the square hole, and a clearly defined outer rim frames the coin's circumference, with the flat fields showing the characteristic dark iron patina of aged Song dynasty cast coinage. |
