Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin displaying four Chinese ideograms in elegant Seal script (篆书), arranged in clockwise reading order around a central square perforation: 熙 (top), 元 (right), 寶 (bottom), 寧 (left), together reading 熙寧元寶. The characters are rendered in the refined, formal Seal script style characteristic of Northern Song imperial coinage under Emperor Shenzong. A raised square rim borders the central hole, and a circular outer rim frames the entire design, both well-defined on this type. The inscription commemorates the Xining reign era (1068–1077), the first regnal period of Emperor Shenzong of Song. This type (Hartill 16.171) is distinguished by the character 寶 featuring elongated long sides.
