| Obverse description | Cast iron cash coin featuring four Chinese ideograms in Regular script (Kaishu) arranged in a cruciform reading order — top, bottom, right, left — surrounding a central square perforation. The legend reads Xi Ning Tong Bao, referencing the Xining reign era (1068–1077) of Emperor Shenzong of the Northern Song dynasty. The characters are rendered in low relief within a plain, slightly raised rim. The fields show characteristic iron casting texture with surface oxidation consistent with the alloy. No additional decorative elements are present in the field. |
