| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin centred on a square perforation, with four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole, reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left. The legend 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao) occupies the four cardinal positions within a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim. The field is otherwise plain, and the casting presents the typical slightly irregular surface characteristic of Qing-dynasty hand-cast issues. |
