Obverse description Sogdian legend arranged in a circular band around a central square depression, reading xwt` w`xswt`wy pny, translating as 'Coin of Lord Vahshutava'. The inscription is rendered in the Sogdian script and occupies the entire obverse field, with the individual characters distributed evenly around the central square motif. The coin lacks a pierced hole, distinguishing this variety from related types. The overall design is characteristic of the hybrid Sogdian-Chinese numismatic tradition prevalent in the Western Turkic sphere during the early eighth century.
