The Tianwan Kingdom existed for less than two years. Its founder, Xu Shouhui's general Chen Youliang, murdered Xu in 1360 and absorbed the realm into his own rival state, the Han Kingdom — making any coinage issued under the Tianwan name exceptionally short-lived. This cash belongs to the chaotic final decade of the Yuan dynasty, when no fewer than a dozen rebel regimes were simultaneously striking their own currencies across China, each asserting legitimacy through the act of minting alone.
