Obverse description Cast brass cash coin of standard round form pierced by a central square hole, flanked by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the aperture. The reign title reads top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 順 (Shun) above, 治 (Zhi) below, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bao) to the left, together forming the legend 'Shunzhi Tongbao' — the auspicious currency of the Shunzhi Emperor. The characters are bold and well-defined in raised relief against a flat field, enclosed within a plain raised rim. The overall style is consistent with early Qing dynasty mint production.
