| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by a plain raised inner rim and an outer raised border. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform reading order around the central aperture: 紹聖通寶 (Shaosheng Tongbao). The characters are well-formed and deeply cast, with 紹 (Shao) at top, 聖 (Sheng) at right, 通 (Tong) at bottom, and 寶 (Bao) at left. The field between the inner and outer rims is flat and unadorned. The overall style is characteristic of Northern Song imperial cash coinage. |
