| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square hole: top character 乾 (Qian), right character 通 (Tong), bottom character 隆 (Long), and left character 寶 (Bao), forming the reign title and monetary designation 乾隆通寶. The characters are boldly cast in relief within a plain raised rim, with the field otherwise unadorned. The stroke style and proportions of 通 (Tong) vary across sub-types, providing the primary diagnostic for variety attribution. |
