Obverse description Cast copper cash coin displaying four seal-script (zhuanshu) Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square perforation, read clockwise from the top: 元 (Nguyên), 寶 (Bảo), 通 (Thông), 豐 (Phong). The characters are rendered in the archaic seal script style, with bold, evenly proportioned strokes in raised relief. The coin is bordered by a plain inner rim surrounding the square hole and a raised outer rim encircling the flat field. The overall surface shows characteristic casting texture with verdigris patination consistent with age.
