Obverse description A dagger with a distinctly rendered handle occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded or dotted border. The device is executed in low relief on a roughly textured flan typical of hammered copper coinage of the Carnatic region. The dagger motif served as a dynastic emblem associated with the authority of Nawab Chanda Sahib. The overall die work is characteristic of the crude, irregular striking technique common to South Indian cash coinage of the mid-eighteenth century.
