Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 開元通寶 (Kai Yuan Tong Bao). The characters are rendered in standard script within a plain raised rim, closely imitating the classic Tang dynasty Kaiyuan Tongbao cash coin type. The coin surface shows heavy patination consistent with age, with the raised legends remaining legible against the flat field.
