Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese ideograms arranged in cruciform reading order, rendered in Clerical script (lishu). The four characters 嘉祐元寶 (Jiayou Yuanbao) are disposed one to each cardinal position around the central hole, reading clockwise from the top. The characters are cast in moderate relief against a flat, unadorned field, with no inner or outer rim bead circle visible. The coin displays an aged patina of dark bronze with areas of green cuprite corrosion consistent with burial or prolonged circulation.
