| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 嘉慶通寶 (Jiaqing Tongbao). The characters are bold and well-defined in raised relief against a flat field, with no inner or outer rim decoration beyond the customary plain rim. The legend translates as 'Jiaqing [era] universal currency,' referencing the reign title of the Jiaqing Emperor (r. 1796–1820) of the Qing dynasty. |
