Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order within a plain raised rim. The legend 嘉慶通寶 (Jiaqing Tongbao) is cast in regular script (楷書), with 嘉 (Jia) at the top, 慶 (Qing) at the bottom, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bao) to the left of the central void. The characters are bold and well-defined against a flat, unadorned field, consistent with the restrained aesthetic of Qing dynasty palace cash coinage.
