| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square perforation, read clockwise from top: 洪 (Hong), 通 (Tong), 化 (Hua), 寶 (Bao). The characters are rendered in bold relief within a plain inner rim bordering the square hole, with a raised outer rim encircling the flat field. The inscription reads 洪化通寶, referencing the Honghua reign era of Wu Shifan (1679–1681) and signifying 'universal currency.' |
