| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square hole, bearing the four-character reign title legend reading clockwise from top: 光 (Guāng), 緒 (Xù), 通 (Tōng), 寶 (Bǎo) — 'Guangxu Tongbao' — in regular script (kaishu), one character in each cardinal field surrounding the square perforation. The fields show typical casting texture with a raised rim encircling the design. Minor variants exist in the rendering of the character 通 (Tōng), distinguishing the known die types. |
