Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within a plain field. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner, the legend reads 光緒通寶 (Guangxu Tongbao), identifying the reign period of the Guangxu Emperor and denoting circulating currency. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with clean, upright strokes typical of late Qing Board of Revenue issues. No additional decorative elements or borders adorn the obverse field.
