| Obverse description | The central field bears four large Chinese characters arranged in a quadrant pattern, reading top to bottom and right to left: 光 (Guang), 通 (Tong), 緒 (Xu), 寶 (Bao), together forming the reign-title legend 'Guangxu Tongbao' (Universal Currency of the Guangxu Emperor). The characters are enclosed within an inner dotted border of beaded design, set against a recessed field. The surrounding annular zone is decorated with flowing, stylised cloud and scroll motifs in low relief, terminating in a small decorative element at the top, all within a plain raised rim. |
