| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left. The four ideograms read 嘉隆通寶 (Gia Long Thông Bảo), translating as 'Gia Long [reign era] universal currency.' The characters are boldly cast in raised relief within a plain inner rim, with a raised outer border encircling the entire field. The overall design is typical of Vietnamese cast cash coinage of the early Nguyễn dynasty. |

| Reverse description | Plain field surrounding the central square hole, with a crescent and a dot positioned to the right of the hole in the inner field. Both symbols are cast in raised relief. The reverse is otherwise unadorned, bounded by a plain raised outer border. This crescent-and-dot privy mark serves as a mint or workshop identifier distinguishing this variety from other Gia Long Thông Bảo cash coins. |
