| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform disposition around the central square perforation, read in the traditional order: top, bottom, right, left — rendering the legend 嘉隆通寶 (Gia Long Thông Bảo). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief within a plain inner rim and a raised outer border. The field is flat and unadorned, with the square central hole cleanly defined. |
