| Obverse description | Crowned royal cypher of Frederik III of Denmark, rendered as the conjoined letters 'F 3' surmounted by a royal crown, all primitively struck in the field of this crudely produced lead cash. The design is bold but irregular in execution, consistent with the rudimentary minting practices employed at the Danish trading settlement of Tranquebar (Trankebar) in the mid-seventeenth century. |
